Today while I was doing the daily chicken cage cleaning my hubby and kids decided to take the chicks out to the yard. It was so darn cute. I wondered out to find them all just hanging out together. Chicks stayed very close and while we carried 3 back in DH let our Buff Orpington follow him in on her own, which was so stinkin cute that she did. Tonight is night 2 of light off and I had it off all of the day but about 15 minutes when we came back in just to make sure they didn't get cold (it was in the 60's outside). Once I turned it off and got my human kids to bed they got loud and obnoxious with their cry, I plugged the light on and they stopped!! HELP!!! Last night they did fine, seemed a little uncertain of the dark and when I checked on them they were anxious to be held.. How do I ween them from the lamp? My house is about 68. Is it because it wasnt dark outside yet? I will try to unplug again in a bit but it was nuts how they shut up as soon as I plugged it back in.

Here are some cute pics of today.

I'm curious about this too. Mine are only 3 weeks, but I'll be there soon enough! :yiipchick

My chicks are 5 weeks and do not need the heat anymore(still in the house in their brooder). But they are afraid of the dark,i just put a small lamp in the room with them. They can see light(lamp is on a table) but it is not over them. Mine are fine with this arrangement, they go right to sleep.
