I get the neighbor complaining but the owners of the chickens let them out. Let them deal with it. Judging because people raise chickens differently than the masses on here is crazy. Predators are everywhere. There’s always a risk. Hell half the time the chickens are killed in the pens where they don’t even have a chance of getting away.OP said specifically: "I can't let them free range because of gripey neighbors and coyotes." So this is absolutely giving neighbors reason to complain (whether because chickens are leaving property, or it goes against zoning), and predators at location are already confirmed. These birds are being locked OUT and do not have the option of a safe enclosure, this is not the same as free ranging.
I just kicked 7 birds out of my shed yesterday in the rain. They’ve been totally loose since they were a few days old and slept at night in my shed. Now they’re in the trees with nowhere else for them to go at night. You would consider that inhumane?
