Hello, we just put are chickens in there coop and run yesterday, up until now there has been minimal fighting amongst the roos. We were able to keep the brooder dark but now that they are outside it's like a bar brawl , fights breaking out everywhere. some minor wounds that i treated with blue cote. They are just over a month old. Is this just them figuring out the pecking order, and hope they figure it out soon. I'm pretty concerned i cant be there all day to watch over them. Hopefully someone here has some experience in dealing with this. I read that it was not a concern until they got much older. Thanks hopefully the scraps will end soon any thoughts , suggestions would be appreciated Thanks Mr.Winchester

P.s. this is a picture of the enclosure i have the roos in. I was thinking to put a dark tarp over the run to block out some light

At anything less than 5 months old fighting should not be serious enough to warrant use of blue kote. Moving to a new location will induce restructuring of pecking order but nothing serious. In my experience lighting should not impact aggression of such young birds. Conditions that would make for serious injury is first, are chicks gamechickens or are the birds doing something other than simply fighting? Could you post pictures of wounds so entire bird visible?

I don't have pictures I might be able to upload some tonight. a couple of there combs were a little bloody and one had a good blood spot on his throat. I noticed when i would put the light on in the brooder they would start to get roudy with a bit of facing off, but as soon as the light went out they calmed down.

The hatchery suggested to darken the pen on there web site
