It's hard to say. Usually the sooner after they hatch, the easier it is to fix the problem. You will probably just have to try it for a few days, and then take off the shoes and see if it was effective. Your goal at this point is to get that chick mobile. A chicken that can't move around is challenging to keep clean, safe or healthy. Have you put the shoes on? Try putting on the shoes and see if the leg improves.
 
Checked it this morning, and It didn't work... toe is curled back again even though its got tape on...
 
I just had a batch of chicks that I had three that couldn't stand. After almost a week the two that made it are now standing & walking. One you almost can't tell & the other seems pigeon toed. Both of the remaining ones had to have a shoe put on to straighten toes. I use a piece of posterboard that I reinforced with ducktape. I use strips of bandaids to tape the foot & toes because if you don't secure the toes well they will pull out of it. Some toes were taped down with one piece &then using another strip to secure the next toe.

I wish I had taken pic's but I didn't.
