Fiirst time chicken farmer in Midland, TX

Howdy folk!

I was doing some genealogy and realized just how very many of my ancestors were farmers, and decided to get some chickens for my backyard. I ran down to Tractor Supply and got 6 bantam straight-run (2 died within 2 days, one was really small and I think he was just going to die, but the other I am not sure about) and then I went back a couple days later and got 4 orpington pullets, so as of now I have 8 five-week-old chickens, going outside next week.

I have been lurking for about 10 weeks, going through the information compiled here. I am probably just creating this account to upload some pictures of my chicks so you experts can tell me what I have, and then will go back to lurking. Chick pictures coming as soon as I can get them to sit still for solo identification pics.

When you say “tell me what I have” do you mean breed gender or both? Looking at that one pic, I think you might have at least 2 cockerels but do not hold me to that.

Teila has given you an excellent link for breed & gender. I would just add that you put their age - at time of photos, in your post. Age can make a big difference in evaluating them.
