Ive seen a lot of people talking about attempting to filter goose/duck pond water and it not working out that well. I was wondering if a septic tank type set up might make the difference. What I mean by that is a tub that is plumbed prior to the pump and filter that has a series of baffles to force all the crap in the water to collect at the bottom instead of continuing on to clog the pump and filter.

Thoughts?

Yes, best to have a settling tank and filter(s) before the pump.
Needs to be setup gravity style for that.
Here is a rough diagram:

That is exactly what I had in mind. I figured a couple of baffles in the first container would work well but didnt want to lay out the money to test the idea and have it fail.

First bucket is a vortex.
Make the water spin in the bucket and it drops out the largest solids.
Can't find most the pics of my filter system(s).
