I posted a couple EE's a couple weeks ago and got some that said both were roos and others were not sure and wanted to see photos a couple weeks later. Here they are and all birds are 7 weeks and 1 day old today. I couldn't get good shots of my SLW's last time but got some decent ones tonight. Tonight I tried to get all the photos to show you of the ones that are quite rooish to me, but I need other opinions. I think that all are roos but what do you say. The silver laced wyandottes I have no clue on gender but the ones pictured have a wider and more red comb than the others do.

There are 9 photos total and the ones in question are in the center of the shot. Please disregard the birds in the backround of each photo.

Photo #7 I thought pullet but that tail is and always has been SO BIG and is always sticking up in the air. #7 has a small comb compaired to the others and skinny legs but I was thinking maybe a late bloomer?

Also I am sure on the Barred Rocks which are the last two photos, but didn't want to leave any of the boys out.

So please help me out and thanks for looking. Sorry dial up-ers about the 9 pics.

Hi, I'm crossing my fingers for your SLW and mine!
By this age my EEs had three rows of bumps for roo combs, only one for pullets. It's hard to see in your pictures but I think 6 is a pullet. The feathers on #1 could be rooish in the way they are more pointy than round...what mine looked like, not sure if that's always true.
Good luck!

#1 and 5 is a rooster.

if you look at the saddle feathers, just before the tail feathers they are pointed...means a roo.

if they are rounded then a hen.

I don't know if it works for all breeds but we have or have had the breeds in your photos and that is the case.

Good luck.

Our straight run chicks this spring was 50/50! We are still trying to get rid of roosters. I have them sold to go in a freezer but my daughter owns them and doesn't want that to happen!

The only one I feel confident enough to say is #1 EE. Looks definitely rooish to me. See the pointy feathers on his back at the base of his tail? They're saddle feathers, and they tell me boy. Girls have more rounded saddle feathers.

Not sure, but 6, 7 and 9 look girlie. 8 looks boyish, because of the large comb and waddles.

1,5,8,and 9 are all roosters for sure IMO. I don't know enough about SLWs to have an opinion on those. #6 I'm not sure about. Needs more time to develop.

5, 8, and 9 look like roos to me. I think your SLW's look like pullets. I have a hard time sexing EE's. I just learned that one of my EE's was a rooster and he's 20 weeks old... lol.

I think he developed slow though, I can usually pick roos out really fast even when mine were little babies, I could tell by attitude the roos were..except for the EE of course:)

EEs do seem to be hard to sex early on. I say #1 is a roo because the comb is very wide for an EE and I think I see saddle feathers starting to curve over the hind end. Time will tell though.

Now that you mention it, it does look like a wide comb to be a pullet. I notice with the pea comb it is wider when it's a male.

That is what I was making my guesses on also, the wide pea comb. I guess that is why I picked these three SLW because their comb is much wider than the others. I was guessing Roos on all but the mystery chicken #7 where I am clueless and it probably needs more time to be sure. For every one I am wrong I will be happy.

Possible 8 roos out of a 25 ALL PULLET order is way more than the 10% advertised. I was thinking I could get 2-3 but 8.......
