Finally! A chocolate egg!

I'm envious! I have 3 BCM chicks but they're only two weeks old. I have a long time to wait for those dark eggs. What age did your BCM start laying?

You know, I'm actually not sure of her age. I got her about a month ago and the previous owner said she would be laying any time.

i just got an egg too!!!!! but it isnt a BCM but its worth to share!

I finally got an egg from my French Marans this morning. She's been with us nearly 2 weeks, and was laying at her last home. The egg is huge, dark, with beautiful speckles. BUT it was covered in creepy slime. I wiped it down and set it out - we'll see how it looks inside. The shell is hard and there are no cracks or breaches. Could it be yucky because she hasn't laid for 2 weeks?

And she laid it just outside the nest box...

But I am so pleased with her!

Here she is. She is a very consistent layer. I found the phone number from the family I got her from. I may want to add 1 more to the flock.
