Finally! A Pip! HATCHED! PICS ADDED!

Skye's second baby just burst out of the shell, just as Velvet's first egg of this three pipped loudly. I'm going to have to go to bed though. It's way late and I'm getting queasy! 'Nite everyone! I'll report in the morning.

OMG, how cute are they??

Cynthia

Cannot wait to see the new pics. I hope you get another splash pullet.

Now if I remember right splash to blue will be 50% blue and 50% splash. but blue to blue should give you 50% blue and 25% black and 25% splash.

So by adding a splash to your breeding program what do you gain? Better lacing? Different blue color? Just wondering and trying to learn here.

thanks

Aww they are really doing good. I can't wait to see how that little splash turns out. I thought you'd like to know that the two brahma/orp chicks that I hatched out last time are both doing very good and they look to be both pullets. I'll post some pics later.

I NEED COFFEE!!!

Had power outage this morning. It was 4 degrees. FOUR degrees. Had eggs about to hatch, babies that just hatched, babies that hatched yesterday in the bsmt brooder, babies in the nursery coop. Grabbed babies from brooder and newly hatched baby from hatcher, put em in box by the woodstove then took remaining two eggs due to hatch any second and put in box on towels in front of woodstove. Had to hook generator to about 3 places.. All water except in nursery coop frozen even with heatlamps. Was off for about an hour. Now brooder warming back up, all eggs in bator were fine due to UPS then generator. I'm sooooooo tired, especially after staying up half the night. Two eggs still not pipped, but are rocking, both Velvet's.

So, on to your questions. In getting a splash pullet, when I send eggs to people from a blue roo and a splash lady, they get more splashes, which people seem to like. It adds another dimension to my flock. To get better lacing, I actually need a black pullet to breed with Suede.
Pics will be coming when I can breathe again in a little while.

On days 18 on can you put the eggs in a box under a heat lamp to hatch or do you leave them in the bator? Just curious!

Forgot to answer you. You can, but it's dicey trying to keep proper humidity. I just had to do that for awhile this morning with my dang power outage! NOT fun. I have a separate hatcher I move mine to that is awesome.

Cyn....your ordeal sounds very similiar to mine almost a month ago......that's when the hubby made me promise no more until spring!!! That's when he found out how many chicks I had in the basement and how many eggs were on the verge of hatching!!!

Folks, here they are. Two Blue Orp/Buff Brahmas one black and one blue it appears. Three pure Orps, one splash, one black and one blue (I think! It's hard to tell the dark blues from the blacks right off the bat). Still waiting on the last two to pip, but I may pip them soon since Day 22 starts in an hour or so.
