FINALLY!!! After Years of Planning - WE'RE GOING TO ALASKA!!!!!

I am extremely jealous. I have always wanted to see Alaska. I hope you have a wonderful time!!!! Good for you.

That'll be so cool, sounds like you are doing it right. I grew up in Ketchikan- that's your first ferry stop in the inside passage. When you dock in Ketchikan look across the street at the top of the hill is a white house, that's where I grew up (just about 2 blocks from the ferry terminal). Dad still lives there. Will you have time to get off the ferries and do a little sightseeing? All those little towns in SE Alaska have great tourist websites so you should be able to check them out and plan things that you like. Have fun.

Imp- Oh No! I just gave away the location of the imp hatchery.

Lisa, I did not take the Tundra tour-by mistake my wife and I took the bus tour which was OK, but my wife had previously taken the Tundra tour and said that was far more interesting. More animal species seen and more varied terrain. The Tundra tour is longer time wise also.

When you are in Sterling, make sure you go to Suzy's and get the halibut and chips! The visitor's center in Kenai is worth a stop. If you can make it to Seward, go to the Sealife center and then to the Salmon Bake for lunch or dinner. I grew up in Anchorage and my kids and I were in Soldotna every summer for a couple months until my parents moved a couple years ago. Soldotna/Kenai is my favorite area in Alaska.

Imp - not sure how much time they give us. if any off the boat. But I will be watching for the "Imp Hatchery"!! Heehee

Potter - MMMmmmmm!!! Halibut and chips sounds yummy! The Sealife Center in Seward is on the list, I have heard it is really worth seeing.

Can't wait to get there!!

Hello from Sterling! You'll have to stop by when you're passing through!

Suzy's isn't open yet for the season, not sure when they'll open but I can let you know.

Sal's Diner in Soldotna is good food, too.
You are in for one fun trip. It is gorgeous up here in the beginning of the season, and the Seward/Sterling Highway is some of the most scenic around. I will tell you, though... bring your Dramamine for the Inside Passage. There are two or three sections where you DO cross through open waters. I don't want to alarm you, but I knew the moment we hit those stretches, and I just went back to my bunk and took a nap. Otherwise, you will want to be right out front seeing EVERYTHING.

I took the IP when I moved up here, and did it in February. May/June will be beautiful.

If you need any tips/pointers, just let us know.

Thanks Mrs AK BB! I will definately bring Dramamine! I don't do too good in rough water! This trip is going to be GREAT! I would LOVE to meet you and Linda too, that would be awesome! I am making a list of places that you locals have suggested to me and we will be checking them out. Thanks for the tips!

Lisa:)
