So I've been wanting BOs for a couple years now but was never able to locate any locally. And since I live in town ordering them offline, with the minimum requirements, was completely out of the question. I located a lady yesterday who had some BO pullets and I went and picked up three today! Put them in the brooder box with my Americaunas and they are getting along wonderfully. I'm so freaking ecstatic! :D

I absolutely love the Buff Orpingtons!!! We currently have 2 in our little flock, and they're such sweet girls!!

Ahh, I'm even more excited. I've heard nothing but good things about them :)

Does anyone else have them in with Ameraucanas? Do they get along well? I've heard that Orpingtons tend to be at the bottom of the pecking order.

I have had Easter Eggers (hatcheries call them Ameraucanas but they are a real breed with a standard of perfection) in with BOs (I only have one EE chick right now) and the BOs were higher on the pecking order. The EEs tend to be timid and a bit standoffish until they are laying I have found, at least the ones we have had. But they are very sweet.

I was just reading about Easter Eggers and Ameraucanas. The feed store I picked up my chicks from labeled them as Ameraucanas but considering the rareness of true ones, the price I paid, and comparing some chick photos, I have EEs! Haha. Either way, I'm glad that they are both docile birds, I don't need anyone fighting. I also have a daughter who loved the chickens we used to have so I need friendly birds, because we handle them a lot! :) That and I'm taking care of my MILs flock right now and they are some naughty birds, not to mention her rooster tried to get me when I went in to collect eggs! I'm going to have to defend myself tomorrow. Silly birds.
