Finally Culled One

Thanks guys for all the feedback and support. That processing thread was awesome. I've been looking for something like that... step by step. Someday I would like to process something... even maybe a turkey... I did the chop the head off thing... with a hatchet. I have to do it myself...so I was thinking about the cone thing and the hatchet. To keep the head exposed and the bird steady... would that work or would the bird still move around alot. This one today I did really fast and was worried I would miss or chop my hand off.

ive never seen it done,, but my gramps said he would stick their head in the cone,,,, the cone was big enough for the whole chicken to fit in, ( he worked for the state DOT,, so he had 1 of those good road cones

) and he would chop, then tip the cone over so it was standing up, and they would just flop around in the cone.,,, you could wrap them in an old towel, and chop their head, then the towel keeps them from flopping around,,,,too much

.
but,, dont take my word for it,, i just tie them up by their feet

,, that way i dont have to pick them up and tie them so they can bleed out, that way i save a step

,,, im wicked lazy

I only every had to do one, so far. My roo, Skip, went insane for some reason and turned vicious. I couldn't even catch him to cull him properly. Had to use a shotgun.

Still ate him, though!
