Not really we live in Texas and the kids painted the Texas flag on the outside to make it look cool.

Nice and just as an aside comment or two:

That's a lot of nest "spots"... I would think they would use the upper nest areas before they would use your ladder roosts.

Have you thought of putting up some roosts on the opposite side of the nests, up high?

there is a roost onthe opposite wall just not real high. they do prefer the top boxes. remember I have 27 hens in there and only 20 nesting boxes>

I'm going to have 20 hens and 7 nest boxes. They all take turns. And with 7 boxes, there is still one or two that they never lay in. Most have their favorite spot.

maybe if that is the case we can always take out the top row and only lkeep the bottom row.

Course it all depends on your hens. I have 4 hens that won't share the 3 nests. 1 egg in each, 1 on the floor and occasionally 1 in the lawn. Silly Hens!
