I like to think of it like this - a "Post" is basically a new message or reply. When you post a thread, you technically are creating a new message, but you're also creating a section for a certain topic or discussion. For example, a Thread might be titled "What's the Best Type of Layer Feed?" and then the creator will explain their questions/thoughts in the first post - kind of like the Thread's description. After the Thread is created, people can see it and "Post" their answers and thoughts about "The Best Type of Layer Feed."
I know it sounds confusing, but I hope that helps!
