I finally found a way to get chickens. I convinced my parents to let me have some at their house. I live in an apartment in another city so it took a bit of convincing. We are able to have five but will be starting with two or three. I just built a brooder out of some plywood and stakes that my dad had left over from a project. 23" x23"
I have a local Feed Store that carries chicks from Privett Hatchery and I am thinking about getting some from them. I want one Americauna(Americana?), I used to know but it has been awhile. They claim that these are true Americauna, but I'm pretty sure that hatcheries sell EE's. Does anyone know of a place that I could get true Americaunas around LA county or Orange County in southern California?
Also, how do they sex them at the hatchery if they aren't sex-links?
If anyone has any extra advice it's appreciated. I already plan to grab some Food Grade DE to whitewash the coop that we got from my uncle, actually his home made bunny hutch. Would it be good to whitewash the brooder as well?
