My Black Austrolorp, Audrey, went broody finally and everything went smooth except one of our Pekins decided she wanted to go broody at the same time and kept pushing Audrey off her eggs. This would have been fine if the Pekin would have stuck with it but she was only into it as long as she couldn't eat or get out of the run. Even with this going on Audrey was able to hatch two chicks. Unfortunately, one of the chicks were trampled by the other birds. When this happened I pulled the other chick out much to Audrey's displeasure. Now Jackie bird is in a brooder in the house and I have to say I can tell a major difference between this bird and the birds I have gotten from feed stores. He (I am assuming it is a male because of how aggressive it is) seems so much stronger and more healthy than any of the others and is much more friendly. Almost every night Jackie will pace back and forth in his brooder and chirp until I go stick my hand in there and click my tongue at him. He will walk up to my hand and allow me to pick him up and then sits on my chest as I sit slumped down in my chair. He walks around on my chest and shoulders pecking at my beard and from time to time my ears...which he promptly gets pushed away from. Tonight Jackie started to chirp loudly after my wife and I had gone to bed, thinking he had no water I got up to check on him but he had water. I went back to bed and he started chirping again much more loudly. I got up and came in here and here I now sit with a very happy chick attempting to dust himself and chirping happily as he walks around on me. The wife says that I am spoiling him and I say he is lonely all by himself in the brooder......poor little guy needs company even if it leaves her in bed alone! ha ha I am fairly certain he is a Golden Wyandotte, the product of my Silver Laced Wyandotte hen, Lacey, and my Golden Laced Wyandotte roo, Golden Boy. I am hopeful that when he is bigger he will remember walking around on me and when I click my tongue and he will be my first lap bird.
