Finally happened - lost 2 chickens

I’m sure it doesn’t hurt anything. You basically have to make it uninviting for a predator. Lights, nowhere to hide, scents they don’t like, noises they don’t like. And so on. Typically they are sneaky animals that don’t want to be discovered or caught in the act. So anything that prevents that is a deterrent.

I just never bothered because I never had an issue. Plus I got a dog, the neighbor has a dog. I’ve never seen any signs. But inevitably it will happen if you do nothing to safeguard your flock. Now I’m forced to be reactive and play catch up.
I live behind a bayou and there are loads of trees and brush on the other side. No telling what all lives back there.

Electric fence around the run mght help.

I could probably let mine sleep in the run on the coop where they try to sleep every night, but I diligently put them away. I just can't take the chance

They have gotten used to roosting outside of the coop on the shelter in the run. I’ll have to remove the shelter for sure.
Grab them off these roosts after dark and put them in the coop?
Shinning that light for one night might help....for that one night, maybe two,
then pred will get used to it.

Turns out it was my neighbors dog. We got it on video taking another one. We’ve talked to him and he is taking care of it. Put the dog on a chain I think. No issues in a few nights now.
