My little chick took roughly 36 hours from pipping, to completely hatched, had a rough ol' time considering he survived through a storm and took so long to hatch, but since it's hatched it wont stop moving around and chirping, is that normal? I also had another 2 eggs which I don't think have survived, we're well into day 22. Also, how long until I can move him from the incubator into the brooder? And how do I stop him being a lonely chick? Sorry for so many questions, first time mama to a chick!

I have had exactly the same thing happen with a wee Jersey Giant. He was the only one of six eggs to go full term and then I had to help him out because he pipped at the wrong end of the egg. He was loud and demanding from the start and very lonesome for a friend which, of course, ended up being me! I have spent evenings sat with him on my chest just to shut him up as his shrill chirping was so loud and drove us mad! I spent ages phoning around trying to find anyone with chicks that I could borrow to keep him company and eventually found some yesterday.

He was born last Sunday so he is six days old and his two new Legbar friends are 36 hours old but he is definately a happier boy now he has some little friends of his own kind. He still chirps out loud for me when I get near their cage but he is getting quieter and more settled and will hopefully soon be content with just chick company.

I took him out of the incubator as soon as he was fully fluffed up and transferred him to the brooder under an electric hen. He was slightly spraddled so I manacled him for 24 hours and he had a bit of a messy navel but that sorted itself out overnight so now he's right as ninepence!
