Finally hatching count 15...UPDATED WITH PICS...

day 21 is officially tonight at around 7 but I don't see or hear anything! Is this normal? There was definite movement last week when I candled but nothing lately... I dunno.........

Oldtimemitigator,
I bet they all start hatching all at once. One after another since you have so many pips. That has happened to me and its hard to keep up if you are trying to keep a record.
Please let me know how you did with your hatch. We discussed the carton method on a different thread and I know you decided to try it but were worried that they might pip too low. Keep me posted on your outcome.
Thanks and good luck with your hatch!!

OK...I'm getting itchy fingers. My first pip is now over 10 hours and while it's moving it's beak in and out of the pip...it doesn't appear to be making any herculean effort to hatch. How long to wait to assist?

I know, Miss Prissy and Tuffoldhen...NEVER!!

How is your humidity? How long have the others been pipped? If its only one that has been 10 hours you need to wait it out. If you open the bator all of the humidity could be sucked out and dry up the other eggs and then the ones that are pipped won't ever be able to get out. The membrane dries out and seals them in like shrink wrap. Having said that, alot of people will help them out, but you have so many that haven't hatched yet you could lose a significant amount of chicks if you throw off the humidity.
I had one that pipped and sat for a very long time. It didn't look like it would ever hatch and this went on over night. It was probably something like 16 hours or so. It eventually hatched, when I wasn't looking (the little bugger) and is fine today.
Then I had one that pipped and sat same thing, for a long time. He was my last egg to hatch and I was very concerned. I finally reached in and pulled off part of the shell for it to help itself out. It did get out, it was never robust like the others and didn't seem to know what to do in the brooder. It died the next day, I think from when they all huddled in the corner and this one wasn't strong enough to push itself out of the group. So helping them out is always a tough call. Some people say that if it can't get itself out of the egg on its own then it isn't meant to hatch and then others have helped hatch eggs and the chickens are fine to this day.
I would help if I know that something in the bator was off, humidity or temperature ,because then that is not something that is naturally wrong with the chicken and you could lose your whole hatch.
Thats why I asked about the humidity.
What kind of bator are you using?
I think if I were you I would wait for all of the others and not dwell on this one too much. It might surprise you.
Keep us posted .

Between 1:20 am when the first one pipped and 8:00 am I have a total of 11 pips out of 19 eggs. So quite a few pipped within a few hours of each other. They are peeping to each other occasionally. The humidity is fine...70% or a little more. I don't have ANY problem with humidity in this Miss Prissy chic bator!! I learned that you just squirt warm water into the bottom of the bator...the eggs, et. all, are on wire about 3 inches above the bottom...and I can control it easily. I also have many ventilation holes which also help.

I'll take your advice...and that of Miss Prissy and Tuffoldhen...and leave it alone for now.
Thanks...

Okay... so please forgive the coffee deprived, severely medicated doofas that doesn't look around much with such influences and lack thereof... I found the link in MissPrissy's signature line ...fancy that?

I have 4 pips now, lots of peeping as well. I hope I don't have to assist much with this hatch. Last hatch I had to help most of them in some way. I lost a few, but I have 10 that I helped out that are perfectly fine and will be 4 weeks old in a couple of day. The other 2 hatched on their own. I started with 17 eggs. So, helping out is a very tough call, but I do know that if I hadn't helped the ones that I did, I wouldn't have them here today.

I'm not sure which of Miss Prissy's bators you are asking about, but I do know she highly recommends the Hovabator Genesis, that's how I made my decision to get one of my own. Best bator ever!!
