Finally have my own chickens!!

Welcome to Backyard Chickens! We are glad you joined the flock!:welcome BYC is a helpful site providing all the information you need to know about poultry! There is always space for more members on the BYC roost!:highfive: A break in egg production is common during this time of year. Molting and temperature drops divert most of their energy to keeping themselves warm and growing back their feathers. The best thing you can do is raise their protein levels a little of they are rapidly showing signs of hunger. Hope you enjoy it here as much as we all do!

Thank you everyone for such words of comfort, encouragement, and wisdom! I knew this group was knowledgeable, but I am overwhelmed at the welcome! I am in Rusk, Texas by the way. I will update my profile as suggested.

For those who mentioned the need to secure the top of the yard, I forgot to say that the next morning, after going to four different stores in two different towns, I finally found dear netting (3/4" squares instead of the 5/8" squares on bird netting), and covered the top of the entire 20' x 20' chicken yard.

Also, I am uploading some pictures of my guys and gals, as well as their abode, as requested by a few of you. :) I do think they look really nice. The pictures don't show it very well, but the boys have iridescent blue/green feathers in their tails, and the girls even have a few mixed in with their body feathers.
