We got our six chickens on 11/14/21. 5 are barred rock hens and 1 is a silkie-cochin bantam rooster. We just love them! I got them from a friend. She said they were getting close to laying. Every day I checked the coop in anticipation of seeing my first egg, and I never saw one. This went on for about a month. Then finally, I saw one! There is only one hen laying so far I believe based on the size of combs etc. But there is one that looks like she could be too. I have gotten 17 eggs so far. They are just beautiful eggs. Ohio was unseasonably warm before, but now it has gotten super cold. So I’m expecting to not get as many eggs. I just was so excited and wanted to share pictures of my ladies (and gentleman) and the eggs. We are building a larger coop when it warms up again, plus a large run divided down the middle so I can alternate a run and garden each year. I plan to buy chicks this Spring as well. Im still trying to decide on what to get.
