My fuzzybutts are finally here. I got the call at 6:30 this morning. Picked up 77 fuzzys. 62 are Cornish X meaties and then 25 are red sexlinks. surprisingly though Welp only included one extra chick even though there were two separate orders. So far so good though. They all seem healthy and are really enjoying their morning in the brooder. I will get pictures once they have had a little while to settle down and rest.

Congrats on all arriving safely, I got 75 from McMurray so I know what you're going through!

The sheer volumes y'all are talking about is just boggling to me. What do you do with so many? Do you breed and sell?

I don't think my family of six could eat that many unless that's over the course of a year or two.

Or three, just because you get tired of the same thing too often.

Of the 75 I ordered, 50 stay with me, 12 go to a friend and 12 go to another. Figure one will pass before then which is why the math is off, if all survive then I keep 51. Ours are purely for egg production, lots of friends love them and each week we have to turn a friend down so more bird is more eggs and more happy friends.

I don't think I have that many friends.

Our neighbors sell to our church friends and they say they turn people away, too, so they welcome us starting up. I plan to let my kiddos sell eggs and learn some business sense. Perhaps I should get a lot more. I wanted to start slow and see how it goes, though. How long have you been chickening?

I don't how I would take care of and name 75!!! They would all have to be chickie 1 - chickie 75

I know... most of you probably don't name all your chickens, but I can't stand to have something and just call it an "it"...

poor chickie needs a name.

As my son said when we looked at getting honey bees... we would have bob 1 - bob 3000...

How long do the cornish crosses live?

I am overwhelmed with 8 right now and 15 more coming... but I am also new to chick parenthood.

Okay here are some pictures of the new sexlinks all settled in their new coop. So glad to have them home. The girls are darker and the boys all have lovely blue dots on their heads lol.

So 62 of my chickens are cornish broilers and they will be staying in another brooder so the kids don't get attached. We will be processing them around the end of June. Out of the 25 Red Sexlinks, my niece claimed 5 for her coop and I took the remaining 20 home to mine. They will become my egg layers of the future. I don't think I would be able to eat them though. I have already noticed a BIG difference in temperament between them and my Cornish X chicks. These guys are totally mellow and nothing seems to faze them while the broilers would eat me if I were to fall in the pen and not get back up.
