Hello all!

I am very excited! We can now have chickens in our backyards! So I'm doing it. It's always been a desire of mine to have a small flock.

We're in Florida. I am getting ready to pick up my 2 hens this afternoon!! I will definitely be researching and asking a lot of questions. So ..... thanks in advanced!

Good for you and welcome.
I always recommend 3 as a minimum and as many as you're allowed and have room for.
You'll use more eggs when you have delicious fresh ones in your backyard. It's a bummer to go through all the work and expense but still need to buy grocery store eggs.

Chickens die more frequently than dogs. They're social animals and a single one alone doesn't do well.
It's much more difficult to add more to an established flock.
They'll lay well the first 18 months. After that they take an autumn/early winter break every year.
The more the merrier.

Hi and :welcome

Best of luck with your chickens!
We started out with 2 hens as well. But we get more every couple of years or so

I hope you find all the info you need here, and enjoy the site. :D

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Congratulations on your new hens, may they lay many eggs for you!

Welcome to BYC!!! Depending on what you want, 2 or 3 birds can work, so you have to think about what you want. If you want eggs, then three birds that are hybrid layers (sex links, stars) will be great because they will give you 1 egg a day, so 20-21 a week! If you want ornamental or pet chickens, then there are a ton of breeds to choose from. Good Luck!
