I am a special education teacher at Waterford Country School in Quaker Hill, CT. I have been hatching chickens with my classes for about six years. We are planning our hatch for this year. This project keeps growing. I work with students with emotional issues and animals are always a good way to connect. Every year we look for eggs from different places. The larger the variety the more exciting. We have hatched chickens and ducks. We have a farm on our campus. Some chickens go down to the farm, others have found homes in our community and with other staff. It is always exciting! I am always trolling BYC and other sites for information and finally joined. This is my favorite time of year.

What a wonderful project for you and the students to work on! Kids and animals just seem to go together. Good luck on this year's hatch.

Thank you for joining us and let us know how things work out!

We never had anything neat like that when we were in school. Of course growing up in Chicago in the '50's we didn't learn about any animals

. Welcome to Backyard chickens.

Hi and welcome to BYC - we are glad to have you onboard with us! Sounds like a great project, and maybe you could connect with other BYC members in your area (search your state thread) - you never know, they may be able to help out with a school visit, or some eggs, or anything else that you feel may enrich your students' learning experience.

All the best
