Well after months of folowing u and taking ur advice I have finally joined this amazing group! Thank u for all ur help, I have successfully hatched eggs, built a coop, a run, my 18 week olds free range on 1 acre of land and roost in their coop every night because of ur help, thank u, now to just get some hens to add to our flock bc we would up with 4 roosters and only one hen, not good for productivity of eggs! See u on here! Again thank u so for all the help and advice!

Welcome to BYC! Glad you decided to join our flock. A lot of us were lurkers before joining. Not only is 4 roosters to 1 hen bad for egg productivity, it's very bad for the health of your 1 hen. The recommended ratio of hens to roosters is 10 hens to 1 rooster. Too many roosters are very hard physically on hens; over-breeding them, biting and plucking the feathers from their necks and backs, battering them, and even potentially, seriously injuring them. I currently have 25 hens and no roosters, and I get loads of eggs without all the aggression, fighting, unproductive mouths to feed, crowing in the middle of the night, and over-breeding and battering of hens that happens when you have roosters (especially too many). My hens are stress free and seem to be enjoying life without the roosters around. Hopefully you can correct this rooster/hen imbalance problem quickly. Please feel free to ask any other questions you may have. Good luck in correcting your hen to rooster ratio.
