they're technically not due for another day or two but i'm so impatient and just want them to hatch already! i'm getting more and more nervous every hour that goes by with no piping

I am so happy, all 6 of the eggs I let my polish sit on were fertile and now the reward, I have 4 happy healthy fuzzy butts and 2 more pipping tonite. I guess third time is a charm. I tried incubating 2 other batches in an obviously crappy incubator and lost all of them. My husband and I think it was somewhere around 25 or so. I figured I would give it a third time with a broody and all are either here or pipping. I don't care what anyone says, waking up every morning knowing that you may have more peepers is so cool, I love it. I will post pics of the whole little fuzzy family as soon as the other 2 make their entrance into the world.

Are they peeping at you, or have you held them up to your ear to see if you could hear pipping noises. I get so worried at hatch time. I worry that if they already broke the membrane then they will suffocate soon. I called my vet and he says give them about 12 or so hours after peeping and pipping noises and if you must then intervrne. Just break a small (equivilant to a pip hole at the large end of the egg) check chicks positioning if you can and leave it alone after that. Don't keep making holes.
But yours are not due for another day or so, so I would not worry right now. They will come. And when they do you will be happy.

I haven't candled them because i'm afraid to open the bator and mess the temp and humidity up lol. Two that were moving the most have stopped, is that normal or should I be worries

how can I tell if they've pipped the membrane? Oh i'm going crazy

I am no expert here and remember that you would do everything at your own risk (seems to always be the disclaimer when dealing with eggs) but you can't tell if they made it through the membrane without taking the eggs out of the box. Try the Flost test in your chicks have gone a few days past their due date. If that does not help then you could try what I have had to do in the past. First obviously wash your hands really good, then gently pick up the egg. Listen to the egg, is it peeping, or can you hear the chick tapping from inside? I usually candle mine to see if any part of the chick is in the airspace, it will still look like an airspace but with dark parts in it, at least this is how it looks to me. If YOU think they really need help then what you do next is up to you. You could put a very tiny hole in the egg so it can get fresh air, but then you would need to check on it very often to make sure the membrane does not dry out. Usually once you put the hole in the egg they will start moving and peeping (but not always so don't assume that they are dead and break open the egg). If you notice the membrane drying out get it moist with a drop of warm water on a q-tip. Posted on here a place that gives you instructions on doing the water test to check if they are still alive. I have had to do this before and have had some happy, healthy chicks that are now thriving adults, but not everyone would agree with me and you also have the option to let nature take its course. I would leave them alone for now though because they are not even due yet right, today or tomorrow is when they are due? I would think that it is normal for them to stop moving a little, only because the chick needs to rest too, but if they were moving they may start again.

Mychickshatched! :

I'm so anxious/bored/excited that I just ate an entire box of tic-tacs. WOAH. Okay. Take deep breaths. What breeds/how many eggs are you incubating? I've got five Ameraucanas and three Silkies. Post a picture of your brooder/wherever you're putting them when they hatch!

Glad to have someone to share in the excitement!

My brooder, i think i might put something else in it, but I'm not sure quite what. Any ideas? :

What kind of incubator are you using? I'm using an LG one, not sure if I like it too much... This is only my second time incubating anything, ever! Last time we had a power outage on day 13.

Hopefully this hatch turns out better! What humidity+temp are you at? Right now I'm at just below 100 and 74%.

I think you should put stuffed animal in there for them to snuggel with

Finally, I can sleep normal now

They are all here I only had 6 in and I got 6 out. This is my first time with a 100% hatch, I am so excited. The last 2 were black and ummmm well I think it has to dry before I can figure out color, so now I have 4 blacks and 2 oddballs.
