My family of six moved to southeast area of New York after living in thr midwest for the first 40 years of our lives! What a change!!! We now live in a place that we can have chickens. I have had my chicken and coop pinterest boards for years, dreaming of this time and learning and studying all I could. We will most likely be ready in Febrary or March of next year. If anyone lives in this area, what chickens do you think do well here? Also, are there any wonderful magazine subscriptions that would be worthwhile getting on chickens? Thank you!

I'm not in your neighborhood but I just wanted to stop in and welcome you to BYC!
One of the best magazines I could recommend is Backyard Poultry. It is the publication connected to this site. Another one that I really like is Chickens which is connected to Hobby Farms publications. You're going to find lots of great chicken folks on here!

G’Day from down under N.E.@heart :frow Welcome and Congratulations!

Sorry, definitely not in your area but the Pickin a Chicken article might be helpful.

I do hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

You might want to also Find Your State Thread and pop in and say hello.

Personally, I have found the Topic of the Week articles a great resource and a one stop shop for questions which may have already been discussed within the BYC membership group.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock when they arrive, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)
