I just have to wonder: do you find yourself thinking about the blizzard we just had? As you're building your coop and run, is it on your mind?
I am SO GLAD a handyman built this little shed for us, solid. Not a cheap kit. I had no idea it would ever give me peace of mind like it did last month, it felt like our roof was getting blown off! After the storm, junk had blown everywhere, car parts laying in the streets, trees down, siding torn off houses.......but there was our little chicken shed, the snow blown around it like a crater of safety for the birds. We may be moving from this place next year, and already I'm thinking about plans for the next solid coop and run!

I can't imagine living where you do 6chickens!! Wow!! I would not know what to do with snow. I live in the Florida panhandle and it doesn't snow here... ever. It gets cold but we have always had an open coop design because of the heat and humidity here. When it does get really cold we put tin around the sides of the coop to block the wind and we have never had a problem with the chickens getting too cold. The North side of our new coop will be blocked by the privacy fence behind it so that will help in the winter. The entire coop will be covered with a metal roof to provide shade from the summer heat. That is definitely a bigger problem here than the cold
