Finally Started My Big Coop!!

Been a while since we have been able to get any work done on the coop with all the snow we have gotten here since January. Finally got out there to get something done.

Getting the Ice and Water shield on before all the snow came.

Ice & Water shield complete. And just in time before the snow.

Used our old front door from the house for the coop.

The window in the door was broken so duct taped feed bags over it until I get a piece of plexi glass to put into it.

Putting the roosts together. I used 2x2's on top of a 2x4 frame.

They run the whole length of the back wall and were put together in 2 separate pieces.

The front rests on a 2x6 which can be lifted and removed when cleaning off the poop board.

They are hinged to the back wall so once the poop board is in place underneath I can lean them up against the back wall for easy cleaning.

WOW... dem's alot of roosts!! Nice job!

Hate to tell you this now but, you might want to go with 2x4's, wide side up......
......more stable footing during the dusk dance and better for protection from frostbite on feet in winter.

I've had 2x2's as roosts since I have had chickens here over 10 years and never had an issue with stability or frostbite. I've never even had to replace my roosts in that time. So I don't see it being an issue but thanks for your input.

great looking coop!

Our county here in NW GA is similar, we don't have to have a permit for anything 120 sq ft or under, I did the same thing, stayed just under. I also do it the way you do, I plan it out in my head and just do it. I did cheat this time though, I drew the whole thing up in google sketchup, all I had to do was pull it up and got my angles, measurements, etc etc......

also, I took my measurements with me to home depot when I bought the T1-11 siding and had them cut them to size for me. All I had to do was cut out the doors and windows and nail em up :)

That was a smart idea having them cut the plywood. We cut it ourselves. Pain in the neck. Trying to figure out a plan for the nest boxes. My buddy from work is coming by tomorrow afternoon, he's the one who's been helping me with the coop. I'm hoping to tackle the nest boxes tomorrow. How did you do yours inside boxes or outside?
