Here's a question. I want a poop board set up. I also want to hang the nests off the floor for more floor space.
How high should I hang the nests?
What's the best height for easy reaching to scoop poop board?
How high above poop board should roost be to prevent birds getting underneath but keep tails up and clean?
How wide should poop board be to do its job without allowing roosting room on the board?

Thanks! We have a long way to go still but I'm really happy with it so far. I've decided on poop boards because I'm getting to "an age" where bending, especially first thing in the morning, is no fun whatsoever.

Poop boards, how you build your board may depend on how you plan to clean it.
This is my setup and technique:
24" deep, roost centered (so it's 12" from wall) and 8" above the board should catch most poops, and gives enough space to use my short handled hoe to gather the stuff to push into the sifter basket. I use PDZ about 1/8" deep on board and sift it all everyday or two, then spread it back out.

Nothing wrong with them roosting on the board, there's rarely any devastating 'being pooped on' events.

It works for you because you have a nice large henhouse. Some people have a 4x4 henhouse and still put the feeder and waterer inside.

This will be a 7'X11" coop on the inside. Big enough to put food inside. However I am not planning to put it inside. They have always had there feeding station in the part of the run that has a rain and snow cover and I don't see a reason to change it at this point. It is nice to know I could if needed.
There was a short bit of time that I did put it inside the original coop amd that was when I first brought the new flock home. I locked them in for a few days, removing food and water at night, to teach them that this was home. Once they finally learned to go in at night it all came outside. Additions to the flock didn't need teaching. They simply followed the older gals. Now with the new coop I may indeed need to repeat the lesson.

Framed out the front wall with door and window.

Boxed in the bottom pallet boards. One in the left hand of the corner will be the pop door threshold so bedding won't escape.

Those boxes won't become mouse houses. Inside are lengths of hardware cloth rolled up and pressed (hammered) in before covering. You can see a bit of it where this piece of wood didn't cover completely. It will be covered too.

Slow going but I think it's taking shape.

A tiny bit more done today before the storm hits. Right hand upper rear corner fixed in.

Cannibalizing a bit of temporary run cover to use the wood for bits n bobs, and to make this go faster because its gonna be awhile before I can buy more material. Hoping to get truck fixed so I can glean some wood scraps and off cuts from Lowe's and various construction sites.
