I just leave them on the wire to bump up my humidity, I put a maxi pad in there and put hot water on it, soaks it up, works like a charm!
good luck!
Have you considered hatching in an egg carton? I do so, and lots of other folks do. Put the eggs fat end up in a pulp carton...trim the sides down, and cut the bottoms off. It prevents the first hatchlings from playing soccer with the other eggs. Works like a charm! A long-time BYC member, Purple Chicken, actually did an experiment hatching quail eggs in the same hatch - half were just laid in the bator, the other half were put in cartons; the carton ones hatched BY FAR better than the others. I searched for his post, but couldn't find it. Anyway, good luck with your hatch!
Fun Post!
I'm a first-time-hatcher (attempting hatcher) with my first eggs set to hatch May 11.
I thought I had killed them so many times, then last night I saw a polish chick dancing inside the shell.
and I was so excited! Now I have a little bit of hope!
Most of my eggs are dark and I am not so good at candling yet...
I killed one thinking it was dead
My incubator temps have been all over the place as well as the humidity. I was sure I cooked 'em all.
I hope at least one hatches...
I know how you feel, it's sometimes difficult to keep that temp and humidity right where it needs to be. I ended up paying more than I had planned on an incubator with a digital temp setting (Brinsea Octagon 20) because I work full time, and was SO worried that temps would spike or drop while I was at work. Even still, there are always things that can go wrong. I learn something from EACH hatch! Before I began hatching on my own, I had a very good friend doing my hatching for me. Each hatch of hers and mine, she'd tell me details all along...so I learned through her and felt more prepared when I began to hatch for myself.
Also, BYC has been a Godsend for me! You can get answers to just about ANY question you may about chickens here!
