Mine are right at six months old and I was wondering if I'd see any eggs this year since the days are getting shorter. I did start letting them roam our (almost) two acres a month or so back and they love it. Maybe yours will start in the next couple of weeks.
That's awesome!! I have two black JG hens, two roos that were supposed to also be JGs and one hen that may be a cross of the two breeds. That one is responsible for the first egg. I found another one this afternoon.
Today is the day for a lot of us, huh? One of my 21 week old pullets - a Rhode Island Red - finally laid her first egg today, too! She’s looked fully mature for three weeks now. Hopefully her hatch mates will follow suit soon.
Congratulations, everybody that got their first egg today!
And to everyone still on First Egg Watch: we're waiting and watching with ya! It won't be long now!
