I'm so excited! I got my first egg from my new flock. You would have thought it was my first egg ever. I opened the nest box doors like I do every day lately, looked not expecting anything yet, and there it was..this most beautiful..little, (I mean little) green, and..speckled egg. Ok, who lays green speckled eggs? I knew I had the possibility of getting a blue or green, but this one has speckles to boot! It was so cute..no bantams, just little and pointy to start out. Now, to figure out who laied it. My son was out there when I grabbed the egg and yelled...

, then showed him my precious little egg. My son said, man, I hope you don't find another one right soon, you'll have a seizure!

So, I know I have a couple that will start laying soon now, so, I am finally back at getting fresh eggs. Whew..was worried there for a bit..thought I might have to wait until spring.
And oh, I tried the Cayenne pepper the day before yesterday..so, who knows, maybe it does work..think I'll try that again in the morning. Only takes a sprinkle on some corn, and they like it just fine. Corn and scratch works to heat up the body anyway.

I don't think its the pepper but who really knows. My thoughts are they will lay when their ready. I want more eggs if my baby's don't lay one more I won't have enough for breakfast. I feel confident that I'll eat a good breakfast just don't when.

Oh man, remember, I'm one of those that can't get pictures to work. I've even tried photo bucket. Keeps saying it's too large.

You just have to believe me though...it's so cute! Why the speckles do you think...has anyone heard of an Ameraucana/Auracana, or EE..which ever she is...laying a blue or green egg with speckles?? It's pretty though.

I remember getting speckled eggs from my beautiful blue laced Wyondotte. They were small, speckled, cute.

Love your tri Collie! Beautiful. I have a friend that has these. I have rescued and fostered dogs..did a tri color once. She was so smart..and of course...I got a lot of compliments on her. I fostered her a for about 5 months. I love dogs....and chickens!!

I know what you mean about cupping the hand. It is easy to get them to be more calm, because they aren't kicking their little legs to get away..haven't heard of the breath part...but have done the putting them up against me for warmth..they do snuggle right in...so cute..I love them! I will try the breath thing.

Thank you for the compliments; and no pic is ok - I can just imagine it!

I love my collie, Patsy (Kline) so much! She is just so sweet and smart. My neighbor took a pic of her with my SLW roo napping on her and sent it to her kids who she said just laughed and laughed...

Now I've got to get DH to take a pic of all of us (me, dog, cat, and chickens) relaxing in the back yard. Its probably not usual for so many species to get along so well...

Wow, a picture with all of the animals and yourself together would be great. I don't trust my dogs..and just tonight told my DH that I hope that we remember to always check first, before we let the dogs out, to see if the chickens were put back in the coop area. Wish my dogs and chickens got along. I have to work with my dogs in the back yard and make certain that the chickens are inside of coop. I love working with my dogs..and so many people are shocked to see what I have my chickens doing. My chickens love me...almost as much at their food.

Thanks, she's become a regular layer already. She laid the one, skipped a day, then got another, then the next day, then skipped a day, then the next day..you get the picture..waiting for my Australorp to start any min. she's really looking more red in the face. I'm getting eggs again..so excited.
