I just wanted to say thank you so much for all you awesome chicken people on here! Thanks to searching for advise on here I have gotten all my chickens in the same coop! (except for one roo)

I bought 6 chickens in the spring of 2011. We built a small coop (tracktor type) just big enough for the 6 of them. 2 of them were eaten by dogs in my neighborhood, leaving us with 4. This spring we decided we wanted more and chicken math took over BIG TIME!!! We ended up with 15 chickens, then another trip to the IFA gave us another 6 bantams. We built a new large coop and huge run area for them. My goal was to put all the larger breed chickens in the coop and have the 6 bantams in the smaller coop. After leaving the old ladies next to the new run for about a month I decided to put the ladies in with the babies and see what happens. My dominant rooster tried to kill one of the ladies! He wouldn't let her be at all. So back into the small coop they went. After some research on here I decided to pull that rooster out of the coop. We made a temporary coop and run for him away from the rest. We put the ladies in with the babies and they are doing wonderful.

I have 3 roosters and they all get along great together. The 2nd in command has now become the #1 and he is doing a very lovely job. He keeps them all in line when he needs to but still lets them fend for themselves when he is not needed.

My questions now is how long do I need to keep my roo away from the others? I was thinking about a week would give the ladies time to establish themselves in the new flock, but would that cause a lot of fighting with the roos? Anyone have any experience with this?

You may have a problem reintroducing the rooster. Number 2 is now Number 1 and may well not give that up easily. A week may well be to long. But you never know
