Finding homes for chickens

My husband got bit by the "chicken hatching bug." We incubated 22 eggs thinking we'd probably end up with only half that but we lost only 1! Now we have all of these chicks and we can't keep all of them. I can't stand the thought of giving these precious babies to just anybody. I didn't go through all of the worrying and stressing over them only for them to end up on the dinner table or mistreated. Can anyone give me any ideas of how to go about finding a happy home for them?

If you advertise them locally, put a price on them even if you plan to give them away. Then the people looking for free chickens as a meal won't want them.

I found two good homes for my two cockerels last summer by calling the radio station and getting them on the "Pet Patrol" segment, a free service for placing animals that people need to find homes for.

Both boys ended up going to homes on farms where they needed roosters for flocks that had none.

I happened to get my first chicks eight years ago by answering an ad on Craig's List.

Both of these options are free, by the way.
