Finding Potential Show Quality Chicks

What are good resources/sources for those who are looking to get into showing?

My son wants to show through 4-H, but the lack of poultry-focused 4-H groups in this immediate area make it hard to go through those channels.

We're in West Central Florida in Pinellas County, so it's a very suburban area.

One breed we're particularly interested in is the Spanish and we're picking up a couple this weekend, but there have been no claims as to the standard adherence of the breeder or anything. It's hard enough to merely find them.

For real show chickens, I suggest that you get a subscription to The Poultry Press. Show breeders advertise there and you can see photos of the winning chickens. Sometimes you can get a name from the show results and contact that breeder even if he doesn't have any advertisements.

All the poultry shows will be listed, too, so you can find shows to go to. That's a good place to find birds.
