Finished our coop this afternoon and our 17 gals moved in via moving box from garage brooder. As soon as they saw their food they were home. A window box under front window has been requested but apart from that it's good to be done! THANK YOU to everyone who helped me along the way - BYC peeps rock!

Very nice coop and pen! We are just building our gals new home too! May I ask you what you will do with the fencing apron on the ground? Do you put dirt or rocks on it?
Very nice! ~Beulah

Nice and I love the branch in there (if I am seeing things correctly)!!! We are finally finishing up our run and I can't wait for them to be able to be out and me not have to worry anymore about stray dogs and wildlife getting them!

Thanks Beulah. I figured there were 2 options for the fence apron. #1 was to bury hardware cloth 2 feet straight down - a good idea. #2 was what I did after hearing someone elses reasoning. I dug 2x6s around the perimeter and tied them into the 4x4 posts. The very bottom of the fence is secured very tight with washers and screws then comes out at a 90 degree angle to 3 feet, with that cloth attached to ground with a bunch of landscaping anchors. I'm going to see how grass growns through the wire and may throw down a couple of inches of dirt and seed in the fall with the idea that the grass roots will grow entwined in wire. Someone mentioned that a digging predator would probably come to fence to dig and find hardware cloth. Even if the predator is smart enough to backtrack 3' they would have that distance plus the 2x6. They would then have to find a way to break through a out-opening aluminum chicken door or a vinyl sliding window with hardware cloth secured to it.

IF the predator does all that while I am asleep or away for the day I will take them to KFC for chicken - they deserve it!

Thanks farmette! Yes, that is a nice river birch branch that needed pruned a while back. I screwed it to run posts so the gals have a "real life" experience when they are in their maximum security home!
