Finished Shed To Coop pictures?

Great! We are thinking about getting this shed: http://www.restockit.com/arrow-gw86-glenwood-8-x6-outdoor-storage-shed-(gw86).html?source=froogle&Bvar5=100F1&Bvar6=100F1&Bvar7=100F1&utm_source=googlebase&utm_medium=comparisonshopping

With
a few minor adjustments. If the doors slide open and shut I will remove them and add a swinging open and shut door. IF I cannot find a wood shed on Craigslist before October, we will probably go ahead and get the above shed. It would be 6x8 which is 48 square feet. 10-15 feet would be used for feed/bedding storage, and that would leave about 33 feet for the chickens. I have 5 chickens, so that would give me room for one or two more

They will only use the coop to lay eggs and sleep, they free range all through the day until dusk. Thank you for the pictures they really help!!

If there are any other SHED TO COOP conversions please do post!

Cheap sheds make GREAT chicken houses! When I first got my chickens I looked at purpose built coops but all the ones that could house 8+ chickens were almost twice the price that I paid for my 8x6 shed, and they were all TINY in comparison. My shed is just 5' high at the eaves - the ones with higher eaves tend to cost a lot more. It's also fairly flimsy and so I had to do a lot of bracing and strengthening with scrap wood, especially when I started cutting big holes in the sides for the nesting boxes and the pop holes! My chickens seem happy enough with it though, and like I say I have 18 in there now and they still seem to have loads of room.

P.S. - If you put in low cupboards for your feed etc along one wall and then put a board on the top of them, you'll still have 48 sq feet of 'floor' space for your chickens. They'll probably love sitting up on top of your cupboards. Or you could put a roost above the cupboards and a droppings tray on top of them...

Thank you for the response and tips! I could have much more then 5 chickens then... Mwuahahahahaha! LOL!

I am excited. We will probably keep an eye on craigslist until the end of September, and if we don't find anything we will go with that shed above. I've found a few good sheds so far, but we don't have the area cleared yet so can't take advantage till September. I am excited! I will be needing idea's for roosts and nesting boxes once I find out what sort of coop I will have.

Below is a pic of our shed that we turned into a coop. It used to be my hubby's wood working shed that had shelves/counter tops in it, but he stopped doing that hobby & we decided to use it as a coop. We put up a wall with a door inside of the middle of the shed/coop so that we could attach 2 runs to seperate out our different breeds. We left the countertops in it and just put shavings on top of the countertops and they lay their eggs right on top of the shelves/countertops. My hubby made simple boxes out of scrap wood for nest boxes and we've placed them on the floor in case they want to lay their eggs there too. In the first section on the left side of the pic we didn't put any roosting rods in because the Millies preferred to sleep on the shelf ledges or countertops. On the right side of the coop we did add some corner roosting rods though since those chickens on that side did not like sleeping on the countertops.
