Fire ants count as pests to me.

Well they're still there. Mad as ever.
Dumped more sugar on them.
ice n dry right now.
We'll see...this is before I dumped another cup on them. 1st time was 1/8 of a cup lol.
They're gonna be my pets in no time feeding them this well

Hahaha.

So...I go down yesterday evening and check my piles. Sugars is still there.
I mess with the top to see if the swarm comes after me...a few angry buggers come out but not many. Might have been the time of day tho so going down shortly to check again.
BUT! now I have a trail of tiny black sugar ants trying to escape with my bait! Lol doh. I don't mind them (they love my potted plants but don't cause the damage or pain the fire ants do)

I have the same thing. Fewer but still there. I think one of the people said it takes three days?
I just hope we can find SOMETHING to get rid of them that won't be super toxic to everything else!

I did some research online about the chemical in Over & Out (I don't remember what it is; dh spelled it for me to look up)... Oh, just hang on a minute. Sorry.
Okay. By a miracle of God, I remembered how to spell it (bifenthrin)

Anyway... Here's the link to it on wikipedia:

And it says that it's not THAT toxic (of course). Obviously, it's not organic, but it doesn't kill pretty much anything but fire ants. It is absorbed by other organisms and I'm not letting my girls go outside without their feet COMPLETELY covered until we get a GOOD soaking rain (b/c it said that it's stored in abdominal fat in males, but it goes to the ovaries in female humans). I'm also walking my dogs for them to "go" and NO ONE is going outside until I feel good about it being WELL watered in!!!

Also, molasses and sugar are less expensive than the poison (well, they're basically organic anyway). I would feel better that way rather than using the poisons.

I agree! I am REALLY trying to avoid adding more poisons to the yard.

Thanks, I have to find a way to rid the ants from the play area and the chickens free range all day, just too hot for them to be in the coop right now
I used molasses last year in my small garden. Watered with it once a week, the plants loved it, but I wasn't in a hurry so I used it sparingly. I really probably could have water 2-4 times a week at dry season peak but was nervous (new things on my plants do that lol)
I used half molasses and half water. In a hose end sprayer with the dial turned to 2 (ortho sprayer that never got used for poison-yet! )
Watered the soil well and they left after the 2nd application. They were making nests at the base of my herbs and egg plants. At 1st they made great pollinators lol then I couldn't harvest herbs without a fight. I didn't do it this year, got distracted and didn't think about it, still don't have an ant problem in that garden

But i can't find my jar of molasses! Lol and its raining again :/ so that test will have to be tomorrow. I love when the hubby asks for kitchen stuff and I have to go to the shed/garden/or chicken coop to get it lol.

I wonder what the molasses mix would do to fleas. People over in the Texas thread have been complaining that they are overrun with them!

Get a case of ice cold long neck Long Star Beer. You and your buddies then sit in the shade and drink the whole case.
As needed recycle the case of Long Star Beer onto your fire ant mounds.
It won't kill the first fire ant but boy is it hugely emotionally satisfying.
