Just a reminder to be VERY careful when using a heat lamp with baby chicks. Had a friend loose his 24x36 barn when the lamp caught fire overnight and burned it to the ground. It was on pine shavings I think and may have fallen over or been too close to the bedding.

Yep...lots of folks write about how these lamps need to be secured with TWO wires or chains to TWO different points to keep this from happening. Many folks still just use a clamp, and that's a disaster waiting to happen... [IMG] Too bad for your friend...too bad for any animals who died...

Great advice! I always clamp the light to a secure post then attach it to a wire just in case it slips off, even still, I worry about it. When it comes to fire hazards, its always smart to be better safe than sorry.

Thanks! I wondered if that was a real concern or just my paranoia. I'll be sure to secure my stuff securely!
