hello all,

It's a pleasure to join your little forum here. My wife and I are the proud owners of three prolific laying hens. We got them from a friend last week and already are enjoying the antics of the ladies. Too bad it's been snowing most of the time because it was really fun to watch them poke around in the garden. We have one Rhode Island Red, a Barred Rock, and a Black Sex Link.

I have a post in predators and pests about possible lice infestation if you would like to learn what drove me to the forum in the first place.

We have an old farm in the woods way up north and wouldn't have it any other way.

firefarmer comes from the fact that our 30 acre farm is in the valley of the fire steel river in Michigan's upper peninsula.

I'm not really a farmer, I'm an author, my wife is a Spanish teacher and we both grew up in town. But we have hundreds of pounds of produce in the root cellar and hundreds of quarts of jars in the pantry to show for our summer of hard but enjoyable labor. We are also bee keepers, tree planters, and wild food enthusiasts.

The mix of chickens is just the latest adventure for us. Already we plan on getting a few more next year.
