Fireworks and Chickens

Your chickens should be fine as long as you don't have a neighbor kid like I did. Years ago, I noticed a dead hen in my run. Her head looked like it had really been ravaged by something, but I couldn't say what it was. The next day, when I got home from work, I noticed two more dead hens in the same condition. I was really puzzled. The third day, I noticed my neigbor's little boy lighting fire crackers and tossing them in my chicken run. A hen would grab one and *boom!* Dead chicken

His parents paid me $20 for each hen - since that was over 20 years ago, you can imagine what they would be paying now!

My yard is fenced in and my neighbors girls are not at all like that. In fact they are not allow to handle any type of fireworks.
Thanks for the warning!

So glad I read this thread! I am a newby with three chickens. We always have fireworks on bonfire night. Hoping they won't freak out. Reading your comments- sounds like they'll be fine :-)

I had the same concern about fireworks this has been helpful.

I am happy my girls will be ok. They get cooped at night, doors closed but windows open now it’s summer. I my just close the windows a little more than normal.
