Fireworks Season Not Enjoyed by All

OH MY this hits home!! Dogs are keeping me awake at night. They are normally quiet in their crates. Tonight and tomorrow my Boston Terrier mix will be on my bed simply so I can sleep. I'm having to carry this 25+ pound squirm worm outside to do her business she is so terrified. Chicks seem to be fine in the basement so far. the coop isn't done yet so pretty protected. I am so tired from little sleep the past weekend and I have bronchitis so exhausted and not getting better quickly. Fireworks are legal here and go off until midnight or so every night for about a week every year.

The fireworks are going of for real now, not the random isolated stuff. Tomorrow will involve even more.

made it home 10 chicks in tow all lavender ameracauna got bulk price giggle all hiding behind feed bin now after I showed each one water nipple then food as I took them one by one from the dog crate photo op tomorrow alright.. my older girls still manage 9 eggs

Just saw an article someone posted on face book about a town in Italy shooting off soundless fireworks in respect to their animals. I'm so tired as my 2 pups have been keeping me up half the night. Chicks seem calm and unaware in their basement hid-a-way.

My birds still flinching on the roost but they do appear to be sleeping. My male dog now going into yard with us even when fireworks were at their peak last night although he does not patrol on his own. Female dog is trying to overcome her fear.

I may be a Redneck, but soundless fireworks must be like beer without bubbles or pizza without tomato sauce, or Christmas without presents. If they don't go "BOOM!" I don't like them. But one must be considerate of his neighbors and their pets. On the other hand, where I lived before my neighbor had two dogs and they kept me awake by barking not just on one or two nights out of the whole year, but almost every night.

Hey me also, I LOVE fireworks!! Just my dogs don't. Thought the article was interesting. I'm missing being down at Truman Lake in South MO for the 4th this year...have to be @ work tomorrow before 7am... definitely red neck -- Ozarks, amazing catfish BBQ, friends and lots of beer-- I'm banned from the moonshine Country gal stuck in the city due to have to work. I would move there in a minute if I had money to retire.

My city neighborhood will be completely smoke filled tonight and smell of gunpowder. I will be out there watching.

I get the dogs every night, we get that also, mine are in the house @ night. Sometimes when I let them out early in the am 5am I let them bark if it sounds like they are being protective. Luckily my close neighbors agree that's OK.

My birds were fine last night.

My dogs were OK to. They were more upset they got locked in a bedroom because our company that was already driving 6 hours got stuck in a 4 hour jam behind an accident. Didn't think after a 10 hour car ride they would appreciate my under trained, excited, 3 large dogs' energy.

My sister in love and her family decided they had seen fireworks and just hung out at my house. when the booms started, we went to the window. They were like I thought you said you can't see them from your house... I said "oh, those are my neighbors!" I mean they put off the REALLY nice ones with lots of reds and blue colors high in the sky. Our town population 7,000 actually triples most years for the 4th. There is so much illegal activity the cops don't EVEN try to stop it. They just observe mostly. Oddly enough I don't remember hearing of any major injuries or fires in the area. We are in the PNW, but summers are still dry and things do still get brown.

@herman 48 I might be able to deal without the tomato sauce... but pizza without cheese is a deal breaker.

I'm not a big party pooper... just a pooper. KIDDING!! You know we all do it.

Also, I wonder... they may be able to take the extra sound from the fireworks, but doesn't seem like they would be able to take away the sound that happens when they launch... which tells me which way to look to see the pretties.

Hope y'all had a great 4th! I'm so thankful to be in a country where I don't have missile flying past everyday. Thankful for what LITTLE freedoms we DO have!

Compared to other countries we still have lots of freedoms. Last night we were invited to a cookout by some friends, who had also purchased $400 worth of fireworks. Fifteen minutes of continuous pyrotechnic fun. They fired them from a spot on some land they lease that is about fifteen yards from a state highway. In many other countries they would have been arrested and fined and/or imprisoned for not having a license and a permit for a firework display. I shoot crows and coyotes from my back deck, and crows from behind my truck parked in front of my house at 20 yards from a state highway. Try that in any European country (or even in the People's Republic of California!)...
In Italy and more or less the same in Spain (I don't know about other countries' laws concerning this), you can't have more than 250 rounds of ammunition for rifles and pistols (yes, that includes .22 LR ammo) and 1500 rounds of shotgun ammo loaded with bird shot (slugs are part of the rifle/pistol category). And you can't have more than a certain number of guns (not many at all). Every aspect of life is regulated, curtailed, subjected to governmental licensing and controls. The police instead don't have to abide by too many rules to make arrests, searches, seizures, etc. In the U.K. and Australia the concept of self-defense has been gutted out. In Japan the police do not need a warrant to search a citizen's home. Yes, there are many U.S. politicians who eye individual freedoms (not their own, of course) with suspicion and constantly try to eliminate them, even if they are spelled out in the Bill of Rights. And it's true that every year that goes by sees a constant erosion of our liberties. But by and large we still are the land of the free, at least compared to other countries. I left my native country because I felt stifled there. When I see what some politicians are trying to do to further erode our freedoms I cringe. Where could I go from here, the last rampart of individual freedom, if that last rampart were to fall?
