My Saturdays are still tied up with the Farmers' Market in Maryville until Thanksgiving - then I'm pretty sure the holidays will be hectic, but let's plan on a nice Saturday lunch sometime after the New Year.

Sounds good to me!
Where exactly is the Maryville Farmers Market?

We're right in the heart of Downtown Maryville Saturday mornings from 9 - noon (or sellout). We're wrapping up our season and all this rain has not helped things.
I was dressed up in a black wig with a witches hat Saturday and the rain was pouring down. Not many customers either. We had a bushel of kale left over and my hubby poured the whole bushel in the chicken pen. Then today I read that kale wasn't good for them - good grief - I'm killing them with kindness!

Hi, I'm in Tennessee too in Sevier County. Wegotchickens and I are chicken friends and every chicken I have came from her. I want chickens for the eggs so that is the main reason I only wanted standard breeds but let me tell you wegotchickens gave me a little Silkie Partridge Banty and a Black Cochin Banty and they have both won my heart over. Especially the little Cochin which I've never put outside and keep in a big bird cage in my back hallway. I call her Itty Bitty and she is definitely my favorite and has become a pet. I take her out and she sits in my lap while I watch TV. Today she ate oatmeal out of my hand while sitting in my lap. And, would you believe that so far she is the only one I have who has started laying yet even though I've had them all about the same amount of time? I think that is probably due to her being inside where it's warm and also the fact that I leave a light on near her for a while after it's already dark outside. I read somewhere that if you want to keep your chickens laying in the winter to put a light in the coop and leave it on for about three hours. I'm thinking that maybe I should try that since it seems to be working with Itty Bitty. Almost every day I get to reach in her big bird cage and get out the cutest little egg. But, it would take about three of them to make one regular egg. :) I always tell her thank you and what a good chicken she is and she makes her little noises like she's trying to talk back to me. I've grown so fond of her now I have my doubts I'll ever be able to put her outside. The reason I kept her inside in the first place was because the bigger chickens were picking on her and I was afraid they would kill her or hurt her. They already did hurt her mate when they were all just chicks and he eventually died so I'd rather keep her inside with me than let her get hurt. I could build another coop for just her and the other little banty but I would miss her so much I'd probably have to move my bed out there. :)

I know just what you mean, GrannyPat. So far I've kept mine outside. After bringing a rabbit inside, Hubby would kill me if I mentioned bringing in a chicken.

WeGotChickens and I are already talking about meeting for lunch someday (after all the holiday wildness is over) and she mentioned inviting you also. Can't wait.

Well, hello to you too. My hubby and I drive around a lot (it's the only vacation (?) we get) and we often get up to Grainger County. He especially likes to go in the spring and check out the tomato fields.
