I agree! Especially the part about making it bigger to plan for the future, chickens are a contagious disease!Greetings from Kansas, 5pointlow, and! Great to have you with us! Lots of quiet breeds from which to choose: the sexlink types (Red Stars, Black Stars...and they go by other names) are layers and mine are quiet. Buff Orps, and Sussex are also quiet in my experience. As to coop size you need to figure 4 sq. ft. of coo space per average sized bird (10 sq. ft. per bird in the run). My advice is to make it bigger in case you want to add birds at some point. Good luck to you and have fun. Below is a handy chart for comparing breeds.![]()
