First Annual Cinco de Mayo Turkey Hatchathon- Join us! Set Day: Easter

Had to go out and take some pics for something I am doing for work so I got a few new pics of my two.

His beard just started growing in about a month ago.

He does like to pose for the camera

Lurkey. Please excuse the "hack job" on her wing feathers. She was not cooperating as well as Tom did when I clipped them. She really is a sweet girl though.

I'm in! I found someone selling turkey eggs on craigslist for only $6 a dozen and was going to get some before I saw this. Might as well have some company.

I really need a separate coop for the turkeys. My first batch lived in the horse barn and roosted way up in the rafters until summer. Then Lancelot started roosting in the door way when Guinnevier hid a nest outside and roosted outside ever after.

Last years group preferred to stay near the chicken coop and roosted outside until winter. Now they are still roosting in the coop, but they really are too big
hmm.png
They clear everyone off the roost when they jump up and down from the rafters and it's not something you want to be involved in. I promise you there are worse things to get caught in your hair than a June bug.

Be sure and let me know when you've seen enough of my turks - I have loads of turkey pictures

LOve the pics! Keep them coming! I have BR, we enjoy them. THey just aren't chickens though. Different in an interesting way.

I would if I could. I can't store enough feed for the horses to make it all the way through "chick days" at the feed stores though! Been really good, look at the chicks, smile at them and walk away. I know someone else will buy them. I do have to bite my tounge and not say anything about the "Ameraucana" and "Araucana" chicks though. I know they are all just EE's.

I get my feed made at the feed mill, which just has a little business office and then the wonderful old nooks and crannies and trap doors and whatnot of an old granary. They NEVER have chicks.

It's SAFE.

Great! Glad to have you!!

I want to remind all of our participants that you ought to be looking for chicken eggs, as well, to set ONE WEEK after we set our turkeys.

All of the experienced Turkers have advised that it's much better for your poults to learn to eat and drink and whatnot from chicks that hatch at the same time.

Leave some room in your incubator and line up those eggs!!

If you insist.

One quick note Renee. Since the other thread is so hectic, I figured I would post an update on my waxed egg for the Easter hatch. I candled this morning and it is still developing!

OK back to turkeys now. I did very good yesterday. I had to go to a feed store in SLC to get flax seed (or flacks seed if you ask DH

) and they had BBB poults there. I looked at the cuties,

a bit and backed away from the brooder. I walked out of the store with only my three bags of seed!

I didn't do as well as you, Dsqard. I went to the feed store and looked at the cuties, and came home with two Royal Palms. I did resist the ducklings, can I count that as a small victory. I knew I would be hatching for this thread, so I gave the turkeys to DH as a gift! I told him that if he holds them everyday for a little while, they will follow him around like a dog. He even held one for a while today. He has never shown much interest in having birds of his own, but I think he believes that I bought them for him!
