First Annual Cinco de Mayo Turkey Hatchathon- Join us! Set Day: Easter

Why not?

I may or may not have just stuck a duck egg under my crazy broody banty.

The other 6 broodies gave me a massive stink eye. They know I have 6 more duck eggs in the house.

Is it too soon to candle?

I need more girl ducks, I have 1 girl to 4 boys (formerly 5 and he was delicious).

Ducks aren't too hard, I hatched 5/6 (one was infertile) not knowing what I was doing. They do take forever to hatch, though. I did not mist them and honestly didn't pay too much attention to humidity.

The defeathering tool didn't work too well on the ducks. We had to dunk them into the hot bath a couple of times because we'd get down to feathers that were still dry! It was insane. I must have plucked that bird for 90 minutes. It was darned delicious though.

Yeah, I put it under a chicken. That's actually how I ended up with ducks in the first place - had an ultra broody hen that was almost starved to death so I bought her the only two chicks I could find. Unfortunately, they were ducks. She loved them, but they did not love her. She saw that and went right back to sitting on a nest (and I then gave her eggs, another 21 days...) and I was stuck raising her ducklings.

SCG I had ducks years ago when I lived in Mass. We had a really good set up for them and had a small brook that ran back behind our property. Here, I would have to build them something and no water for them to play in except the horse troughs. The horses make a big enough mess playing in the water let alone adding duck poo. Too messy and it is too dry here. They are very cute as ducklings but I really have no use for grown ones. Besides just got my last group of hatchlings out to the barn last weekend. It is nice to not have any in the house after months of it. No more hatching for me this year. We can chat about an egg exchange next year. I would be willing to try hatching turkens and I am hoping that the blue poult is a girl so I could send you more turkey eggs with hopefully better results this time!
