Happy Birthday NotAFarm

I've been unofficially 30 for 25 years too.

Candling on Day Zero? Yes, we need a straight-jacket for SCG! A whole week longer to NOT candle, silly girl!

This is what I was gonna say, but I see it's been covered including pics.

I just set my eggs. I have 5 Bourbon Reds and 2 Palms. Thank you Denny!

I always candle on day 0.. especially for shipped eggs.. it's the best way to tell if there are any hairline cracks that need to be tended to

Yes, that's exactly what I was doing.

Oh I know we are right Linda because SCG set yesterday so she is actually on day 1.

. And congratulations on your hatches and NOT having to have eggs
Mailed!!!

Thank you! And thank you to everyone else for the Birthday well wishes. All but one duckling has hatched (4 eggs never did anything so I opened them up). I ended up with 12 out of 16 (after the last one hatches), not bad for my second try. Yes, it is nice being able to pick them up. This year there seems to be a lot of people selling various types of eggs. I also got 4 dozen Guinee eggs on Friday to set with the Turkeys (they were only $3.50 a dozen!). Got the turkey eggs set along with everything else now I just have to wait a month. I can't wait until they hatch. This is my first time with turkeys.

Oh SCG I told you I would post a picture of me gathering up the flock after freerange time.

The magical sound of treats in the bucket has them all running. This is when the try to trip me.

Everybody's in!

I was certain I had 4 boy ducks and 1 girl duck based upon voice, then I came home from work a few weeks ago and caught 2 "boys" mating in the duck pool. I was so excited that I had another girl. When it was over the "girl" got on top and mated the boy.

I was right about having 4 boys and 1 girl... but I have 2 confused boys, 2 boys and 1 girl.
I have 5 girls and 1 boy and the girls will do that to each other on occasion. It may be dominance behavior too. I have snowy Mallards and had no idea what they would look like as adult, so I wasn't sure what they were until I finally saw the drake curl in their tails. Ducks confuse me. I guess we'll be hatching those along with the turkey since one of the Black Indy girls decided to set yesterday too!

Congrats! I stopped aging at 33 - that was a fine year!

DH mentioned the wild turkeys were the focus of my BR toms this morning. Haven't seen wild turkeys for a number of years. Nice to know they are surviving the constant building.

They are getting as bad as deer. They have been in the news quite a bit this year with lone hens hanging out in parking lots and toms attacking pedestians at busy intersections.

Such a nice well behaved flock. It would take a lot more pictures and a few diagrams to show my evening round up!

Oh I forgot to add I set 31 eggs yesterday evening. I'm hoping for a 50% hatch since some of these are pretty old. It's been quite a chore finding out where they have been laying! Pretty much never in a good place - on a shelf above my coop cabinet, under the truck, on the tool bench in the machine shed, in the neighbors field, on the ground under the chicken nest boxes and randoml spots on the manure pile. Every time they find a new spot I build them a suitable box in the area but then they move somewhere else
