You my dear, are my kind of people!

I have a question. I'm using an LG w/fan. I have a digital and a meat thermometer, and they are both registering about the same. I am not using the turner, so I'm propping one side up and then the other to turn, as I have them set in egg cartons. When the side is down, the top of the egg is only registering 98. When it is up, the top of the egg is registering 101. (It was 100 when flat) Should I raise the temp to 102 when it is up, so that hopefully it will be 99 when down? And have I already doomed my poor eggs???

Also, I think someone should just add Yinepu, since they are hatching anyway.

Also, as far as the "hatched" number goes, it would be to my benefit if they that the number submitted by the deadline, as I never in a bazillion years would have dreamed the 10,000+ started, so obviously my number is significantly lower. But I can understand wanting to use the "total" hatched. I'm glad I'm not the ones making the decision!

Suggestion: attach a rod under another egg carton prepared as usual, cutting out bottom and cutting down sides if that's your design. ROd could be PVC, wooden dowel or the like.About 3/4 inch. THen transfer the eggs to the new egg carton carefully, so to avoid mishaps.

I tried rocking my homemade incubator (a cooler) and the temp swings were not to my liking at all. In the LG with PC fan, the egg cartons are experiencing a pretty even temperature. Generally the temp is 99 when the thermometer is laid between the rows of eggs and the floor is running about 97; on top of the eggs is running a little higher. So not perfectly even temp, still a gradation. Still air is 102 on top of the eggs; Chookschicks info is 99 at height of turner. I use these as a guide. Late hatching chicks can have many problems just as early chicks can have problems too.

Just my experience; Just my opinion. See what works for you.

May I have mine in purple? Deep dark purple plush? For some reason I'm flashing back to 6th grade in the 70's to a favorite pair of pants . . .

I remember, for me it was a crimson, fake fur, coat that I got for Christmas. I wore that thing until it was too small and nappy! Ha! I loved it with a pair of sock shoes (shoe socks?) and a paisley print ankle length dress! I was a unique child........still am!

I am sorry if you misunderstood my message. I in no way was saying you shouldn't follow the original rules. In fact, when I was deciding on a final number, I looked at last year's results and saw where quite a few never entered their totals and, therefore, guessed lower than I actually thought. I think a lot of people would like to see the final total to see the percent hatched, although I am sure there are still some that will never submit their total, no matter how many PMs, etc., they receive. And I can understand in your perspective how releasing that number could, and probably would, cause problems. None of you who so valiantly and selflessly spent hours and hours (and more hours) organizing, posting and keeping all of us educated, entertained and informed, need or deserve any more problems. I had a great time following the hatch-a-long, and greatly appreciate Mahonri and all the rest of you organizers!

this evening I took a few minutes to refill the super built in feeders in the condos; For somereason I felt the need to look into the top rather than just pour the feed into the open top. THREE ... yes THREE eggs were in the feeder. Way down 14inches . How long they have been there is a BIG mystery.

They are from my BO who stopped laying last week, or so I thought! Into the incubator immediately just in case they are viable. Love my BO.

Guess I need to make a cover that looks like a nest box!
