First attempt at incubating eggs!

everything was going great up until this morning, im starting to panic a bit because when i got up this morning we had no power, i have no idea what time it went off and the temp in the bator was down to 27c. i didnt turn the eggs this morning because of that i didnt want to open it! so i just come back up from turning the eggs tonight, i candled them but only a couple are moving, im hoping they will still be ok, im staying positive but still nervous. no blood rings or anything like that, but im still unsure.

well for now out of the 24 i have 7 definite moving, about 10 are now too dark for me to see, so unsure whether they are dead eggs or the chicks are too big, THE OTHERS WELL I THINK THEY MAY HAVE DIED EARLY AS THEY HAVENT HAD ANY GROWTH FOR A WHILE? i am getting rather anxious now, but tomorrow night they are in lockdown so i will have all my fingers and toes crossed for the next few days!

sorry about the caps up there im too lazy to retype it!

What section of Walmart are they in? I went looking for one, and I all I came up with was a digital thermometer with the humidity reading on it. Finally just went to a pet store and got one.

Hygrometers read humidity readings. I think "digital thermometer with the humidity reading on it" at Walmart is the same thing as the "Hygrometer/ thermometers" mentioned

the little black one hatched at 9pm yesterday (day 21)

i am now on day 22, i have JUST had 2 more hatch at 12pm, a black and a yellow, PLUS i have 6 cracking as we speak. Fingers crossed for the rest, i was expecting a delay considering the amount of power cuts we have had in the last 3 weeks! stay tuned, more pics to come!!!

Oh fabulous!

I have the same incubator, was the cheapest/biggest I could find. You can't get an incubator for less that £70 it seems and even then it was only for ten eggs, which seemed daft as eggs are sold in 6's... then I found this one. I little prehistoric, but it seems rather efficient!

What did you do for the humidity at lockdown? I was thinking about trying to find a long, thin funnel and sticking it through the probe hole in the top to wet the paper towel in the bottom.

I've also modified mine to fit a birdbox camera to the wall, so people will be able to tune in during hatching.

i had 24 eggs, i have now got 11 chicks in the brooder and 1 still pipping, i think thats all i will have, but for first attempt 50/50 i thought was good.

for the humidity i didnt do anything extra apart from filling the water wells all the way up for lockdown, it is a great little machine, and perfect for the price it does well
